"Just brilliant. What a fantastic voice. And she's still unsigned - it's amazing." - Georgey Spanswick, BBC Radio London
Kat’s new single Giving It Up was unveiled exclusively to the UK on Sunday the 31st of May by Sir Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2, and is OUT NOW on iTunes!!
Cardiff born, Sheffield raised and now living in London, Kat is rapidly making a name for herself in the capital.
Kat launched her solo career in September 2013 with the single ‘Alien’. Since then Kat’s vocal and songwriting talents have gone far from unnoticed. Immediately gaining the support of BBC Introducing, Kat set out on her debut tour across the UK, where she garnered rave reviews. BBC Introducing championed ‘Alien’ naming it one of the top 25 singles of 2013. Kat was then asked to attend the exclusive BBC Introducing Masterclass event where she met with industry and radio.
Quickly attracting the attention of BBC London, Kat was asked to perform a live session and interview at BBC HQ. Mark Forrest featured 'Tightrope' from Kat's last EP 'Live At The Foundry' (released June '14 on Ont' Sofa Records, who have worked with the likes of Ed Sheeran) twice, during his popular show reaching 3.2 million listeners, as "Best of BBC Introducing". At the end of 2014 Kat went back into the studio with production team ‘Reel To Reel’. Then in April, she had the opportunity to work with heavily in demand producer Neros. Kat's new single 'Giving It Up' is produced by both 'Reel To Reel' and Neros. It was released 22nd June 2015, and made the BBC Radio London Playlist on Monday 29th June 2015, alongside just 3 other artists signed to major labels - John Newman, James Bay and Jack Savoretti.
Unsurprisingly given the raw honesty of her lyrical material, and the strength of her vocal, Kat has been compared to some of the industry’s strongest performers, including Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith and her hometown hero Joe Cocker.
Both press and fans have often described Kat as the small girl with the big voice. In a music scene that is rich with female singer songwriters Kat’s unique voice stands out, with its low soulful register and immense power and purpose.
Having already toured the UK supporting the likes of Nell Bryden, Sandi Thom, Jon Allen and Mike Dignam, Kat will be on the road again for her UK tour over the Summer, so keep an eye on the website as new live shows are being booked all the time.
