Cardiff born, Sheffield raised and now living in London, Kat is rapidly making a name for herself in the capital.
Kat launched her solo career in September 2013 with the single ‘Alien’. Since then Kat’s vocal and songwriting talents have gone far from unnoticed. Immediately gaining the support of BBC Introducing, Kat set out on her debut tour across the UK, where she garnered rave reviews. BBC Introducing championed ‘Alien’ naming it one of the top 25 singles of 2013. Kat was then asked to attend the exclusive BBC Introducing Masterclass event where she met with industry and radio.
Quickly attracting the attention of BBC London, Kat was asked to perform a live session and interview at BBC HQ. Mark Forrest featured 'Tightrope' from Kat's latest EP 'Live At The Foundry', during his popular show reaching 1.6 million listeners, as "best of BBC Introducing". Kat has also gained the support of heavily in demand production team ‘Reel To Reel’ who will be producing her next EP, due for release in early 2015.
The Foundry Studios in Sheffield has played host to some of the biggest names in the music industry such as Take That, Bryan Adams and Pulp to name a few. So it was a sad day for the music scene when it looked like the studio was going to be turned in to offices. However, at the last minute it was taken over by producer Chris Palmer and Soundbytes Media. In celebration of this Kat chose The Foundry as the location for her live EP Live At The Foundry. Having worked there regularly in her early days as a session singer with Grammy award winning Producers and Songwriters, it seemed a fitting venue. The whole session was filmed and produced by Ont’ Sofa and later released on their ever-growing record label. Ont’ Sofa have worked with artists such as Ed Sheeran, Frank Turner and Lucy Spraggon so when Kat was asked to be one of the first acts to release a record on their label she was flattered to say the least.
Live At The Foundry was released on 16th June 2014. Unsurprisingly given the raw honesty of her lyrical material, and the strength of her vocal, Kat has been compared to some of the industry’s strongest performers. The new EP sees Kat sail from the Paolo Nutini playfulness of ‘Don’t Paint It Black’ to the Ingrid Michaelson honest tease of ‘Alien’.
Both press and fans have often described Kat as the small girl with the big voice. In a music scene that is rich with female singer songwriters Kat’s unique voice stands out, with its low soulful register and immense power and purpose.
Having already toured the UK supporting artists such as Sandi Thom, Mike Dignam and Nell Bryden, Kat will be on the road again over the coming months. Keep an eye on the website as new live shows are being booked all the time.
On the 26th October Kat launched Blue Sundays - a new night which she hosts with her full band, featuring a different up and coming artist every week. Check out the tour dates for more information.
